Lemieux Scores Big ECS Challenge Win
January 22, 2012
Plattsburgh, NY – Sophomore Pro rider Lincoln Lemieux earned the biggest win of his career Sunday, overpowering the northeast’s top racers to claim the second annual ECS Challenge at the Crete Civic Center.
The grueling 16-lap Challenge offered a record purse of over $7,000 and was part of Round 2 on the 2012 East Coast Snocross (ECS) championship series. Along with the rich non-points event in Plattsburgh, riders also competed for points in all classes.
Lemieux’s victory in the ECS Challenge came as somewhat of a surprise, as he slotted into sixth at the start and had to charge his way to the front. As Danny Poirier led the first 10 circuits, Lemieux marched his Ski-doo past veterans Dave Asselin and Corin Todd. By lap 10, he was running second when Poirier made contact with a lapped rider in a highly-technical section of the track and came off his sled. After inheriting the lead, Lemieux checked out to record a 6.5-second margin of victory over Asselin (second) and Todd (third).
Presented by Malibu Boats, Liquid Force Wakeboards and Liquor & Wine Warehouse of Plattsburgh, the ECS Challenge consisted of 2 rounds of qualifying on Stock 600cc sleds and Dave Allard came out of qualifying as the number 1 qualifier and scored the Amsoil Top Qualifier $200 prize. At the start of Sunday's final, the next prize on the line was the $300 Bailey Motor Company Holeshot Award which was awarded to Jacob Muller for winning the drag race to the holeshot stripe, just edging out Danny Poirier.
The final two special awards came at the end of the event when Lucas Brunelle was awarded the $750 Top Pro-Lite Finisher prize with his strong fifth-place performance. Lastly, number 1 qualifier Dave Allard won the Camoplast Hard-Charger award with his 13th to 4th place charge through the field.
Each of the Top three finishers received Woody's gear bags & certificates, Sunoco Race Fuel from New England Race Fuels, and EVS Sports protective vests. Asselin and Todd both received Liquid Force Wakeboards and a set of C&A Pro Skis were awarded to Corin for his 3rd place finish.
